Hiking, biking, bird watching, canoeing and fresh water swimming are all activities that bring outdoor enthusiasts to Clamber Hill Inn, in Petersham MA. Situated in the heart of North Quabbin's pristine forests, the inn provides access to thousands of acres of conservation land. The inn is conveniently located to fresh-water swimming at Queen Lake, bird-watching at the Quabbin Reservoir, hiking in Harvard Forest, (right out the back door) canoing at Mt. Tully Lake , the Miller's River, or one of the many other lakes in the area, horseback riding at the New England Equestrian Center of Athol or training with the world class driving competitor, Larry Poulin on West Rd in Petersham. If you are into hiking and outdoor scenery, there are nine spectacular Trustees of Reservation properties in the area, all of which allow leashed dogs on the hiking trails. The Inn has trail maps available for all of them. Bicycling on the back country roads of Central Massachusetts is also a popular activity in the North Quabbin area. Many cyclists enjoy riding all the way around the Quabbin Reservoir. And now we have a B-2-B by Bike arranged with Centennial House in Northfield MA. And don't forget fishing in you list of outdoor activities. Popular places to fish are the Quabbin Resevoir where you can rent boats for the day or fly fishing on the Swift River. There are several nice golf courses in the area. The two closest both designed by Donald Ross, are the Petersham Country Club, and Ellinwood. And don't forget culture! The nearby 1794 Meeting House in New Salem MA, presents an outstanding series of musical concerts every summer and even closer to the inn, the local Petersham Band does a series of six or seven concerts on Sunday evening in June, July and August. And for the fall and winter new Cultural Center at Eagle Hill (see our Curtains Up Theater Package) located in neighboring Hardwick MA brings in world class entertainment. Also in the winter, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing right out the back door of the Inn or for downhill skiers, Mt. Wachusett with a 1000 ft vertical drop is less than 30 minutes away. As innkeepers who ski, this is our mountain, close enough to get to easily and challenging enough to keep going all season long. There is much to do and see in the North Quabbin area, hiking, biking, music, fairs, festivals and unique museums. It is a great place to visit and explore.
