Sophie has always been interested in health. She received her B.A. in anthropology
from Oberlin College, concentrating on the interaction of religious beliefs and health
practices. Sophie obtained her massage license in 2001 from The Swedish Institute in
New York City, one of the best schools of massage in the country. Her two year
in-depth training included classes in anatomy, physiology, myology, kinesiology,
pathology, neurology, and Chinese Five Element Theory. Practical hands-on training
work included Swedish massage, deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point
therapy, manual lymph drainage, and reflexology.
Sophie has a diverse work experience. It includes working in a holistic therapy
center, a yoga studio, with a chiropractor, with the elderly, with a chair massage
company, and at sports events. She sustained a successful private practice in
Berkeley, California for two years and provided medical massage to clients of a
prominent chiropractor. Sophie moved back to Massachusetts in 2004 to start a
family close to home. She now has a practice at Listening the Integrated Health
Center in Barre, and works part time in Amherst.
